Tucked on the corner of a roundabout you will find Dafne in Nis. A perfect stop for when you need a break from site seeing. This adorable cafe not only has a wonderful ambiance but amazing coffee and pastries as well.
The inside I would characterize as mid-century modern but homey. Lots of natural light and modern furniture pieces mixed in with some (fake) antiques. There was a good mix of people who were very casually dressed and people who seemed to be more dressed for businesses stopping in after the workday was over.
The staff was also incredibly courteous especially for what I am used to in Serbia. There were even some rowdy children in the restaurant and the workers were all very sweet and patient.
In Serbia there is a dish known as “Knedle”, this can be eaten as a dessert, main dish or side dish. At this particular cafe, they are known for their dessert knedles. A knedle is a dish made of boiled potato dough filled with plums. There are different varieties but I have to say the one at Dafne is my favorite so far.
The only true negative about this place was that there were so many options! The classic knedle was definitely my favorite, though I think they did add some extra sugar when they saw I was from the US. I will definitely be coming back here the next time I am in Nis and I highly recommend it to all others.
